Forty millimeters can go either way on a smaller wrist. This one behaves. The ceramic bezel is thin against the black dial, so the eye reads the dial, not the case edge, and the watch sits closer to the width of your wrist than the spec sheet suggests.
The Oysterflex does most of the work here. It's a metal core in a rubber skin, so it bends fully to the wrist and doesn't leave a gap under a 6.25 to 6.75-inch wrist the way a bracelet's rigid end-links can.
